Cape Kamui
Cape Kamui, stretching dramatically out into the ocean, is reached via a 770-meter promenade called "Charenka's Path." The promenade starts with the "Nyonin-kinsei-no-mon" gate that traditionally kept the cape off limits to women. A 20-minute walk along the trail with magnificent views of the Sea of Japan on both sides will reward you with an astonishing 300-degree sweep of the panoramic horizon.

Otaru Canal and the Surrounding Tourist District
The Otaru Canal was built in 1923 and features a unique gently curving flow line. The canal was built by filling and reclaiming land offshore, creating a beautiful curve not seen in straight-line canals dug inland. A walking path built by reclaiming part of the canal has many restaurants and cafes in renovated stone warehouses.
